I met Alora Kate when she was looking for reviews for her debut novella, 'From Summer and Fall'. I had no idea that agreeing to review her book would lead to a beautiful friendship, but I am very grateful! I am blown away by the sheer number of books she has started, that are just waiting for the pieces to come together to finish. I'm amazed by her drive and ability to focus on her future while being a single mom to an energetic 3 year old boy. She's recently made the big jump and left her full-time job, to go back to school to learn yet another skill to propel her forward in life. She loves her "Hacker Girl" stickers on Facebook, so I only thought it fitting that they should make an appearance here. :-) | Amazon: http://amzn.to/1AXrokU B&N: http://goo.gl/gTZLL8 iBooks: http://goo.gl/9se8MC Kobo: http://goo.gl/lcEle1 Google Books: http://goo.gl/kMYvhS |
How long have you been writing? Two years. It all started with naming characters and then I messed around with a few ideas. As the ideas came, new stories started. For some reason I don’t like starting a story until I have the names figured out. You can’t write a character and not know their name. That’s just how I am with my writing process. Sometimes I’ll be at the store or trying to sleep and a name pops in my head. And then from there I imagine what they look like, then that's when I start to learn their story. So...your characters tell you their stories? Yes for the most part...I dream about them. |
Did you always want to be an author?
No. The thought honestly had never crossed my mind. I barely passed my English classes in high school and college, so being a writer still boggles my mind. But I’m glad I finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up.
Heh. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up!
Please share one of your most embarrassing moments with us…
I really don’t get embarrassed too much, but lately its when my beta readers read my sex scenes. For some, I want to hide. Lol.
What is something that you wish more people knew about you?
That I do write! I use a pen name and there are still some people I’m sure, that don’t know I write. I think its weird knowing when your friends and family are reading your book - again, because of the sex scenes. One of my brothers commented, “Damn sis, I didn't know you thought of shit like that.” He likes to tease me, but he’s one of my biggest supporters.
Aside from writing, what would you say a few of your greatest skills or talents would be?
I’m not sure its a talent, but I love to swim. I started in junior high and swam until I graduated high school. I loved it and even helped other people learn how to swim. I don’t swim now, but I’d love to given the chance.
What/who are your biggest inspirations in life?
My son has become my biggest inspiration in life. I want him to have everything I couldn't growing up and I want to do right by him.
In writing?
My favorite author is Kristen Ashley. I hope someday to meet her and get some books signed. I love how detailed she is and how thought out her stories are. She’s very talented and I hope one day I’m successful like her.
What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Sunflower seeds. I used to smoke and I think they are the substitute, for the most part.
What's your "adult beverage" of choice?
Margaritas. A very large, lime, salted and on the rocks, Margarita!
What is your go to comfort food?
Mexican food. Nothing too spicy, but I’m a huge fan of sour cream and you can’t have Mexican food without Sour Cream!
Mmmmmm....Mexican food :-)
Describe your taste in music…
I like a variety, but nothing heavy metal. I like dance music most, but my all time favorite singer is Johnny Cash. That man’s voice does something to me.

What is a pet peeve of yours?
People who lie. It doesn't matter how small the lie is. A lie is a lie.
How do you think your friends would describe you?
Weird, a bit crazy at times. Outgoing. Funny. Loyal. Honest. Caring.
Yup! I'd have to agree :-)
Thank you, Ella!

Tell us one random fact about yourself…
Chocolate makes me sneeze. I’m not allergic and I do eat it in small amounts, but sometimes just smelling it makes me sneeze. At my last job, this was the funniest thing at the office. Lol.
What is your current writing project?
I have over 40 books started, sitting in files, waiting to be finished. Some are within a few chapters of being finished, but I guess they are just not ready yet. So right now, I’m currently working on book 3, 3.5 and book 4 of The Four Season Series. I’m kind of writing them all at the same time. Scenes pop in my head and I need to write them out.
That's just impressive as hell!
